Experience the Best French Food in NYC at Café D'Anvers

Authentic European Flavors in the Heart of New York

New York City has no shortage of restaurants, but finding truly authentic French food in NYC is a different story altogether. At Café D’Anvers, we do not imitate French cuisine we live it. Our kitchen is rooted in Belgian-French culinary tradition, guided by Chef Johan Halsberghe whose family recipes trace back generations to the city of Antwerp.

From the first bite of our shrimp croquettes to the last spoonful of our signature chocolate mousse, every dish at Café D’Anvers tells a story of European craftsmanship brought to life on Lexington Avenue.

What Sets Our French Food Apart in NYC

When people search for the best French food in NYC, they are looking for more than a trendy restaurant. They want something real food that feels like it was made with intention, not just efficiency.

Here is what makes Café D’Anvers different:

Rooted in Belgian-French Tradition- Our menu draws from the rich culinary culture of Belgium and northern France. Dishes like Carbonnade Flamande and Moules Frites are not adaptations they are the real thing, made the way they have always been made.

Quality Ingredients, Every Time- We source key ingredients directly from Belgium and France. Our frites are cooked in beef tallow the traditional way. Our ales for slow cooking are Belgian. Our chocolate is the real thing.

A Chef Who Cares- Chef Johan does not just manage a kitchen. He is present, passionate, and personally invested in every plate that leaves it. That personal commitment shows in every dish.

No Pretension, Just Great Food- The best French food does not need a dress code or a waiting list of six months. It needs care, skill, and good ingredients. That is what we offer.

Moules Frites- The cornerstone of Belgian-French cooking. Fresh mussels, steamed in white wine and garlic, with our twice-fried Belgian frites on the side. It does not get more classic than this.

Steak Frites- Tender bistro steak, herb butter, crispy frites. A Parisian staple that we have perfected in East Harlem.

Carbonnade Flamande- Slow-braised beef in Belgian dark ale, cooked low and slow until the meat is fall-apart tender. This is true French-Belgian comfort food at its finest.

Croquettes de Crevettes- Crispy on the outside, creamy and rich on the inside these shrimp croquettes are one of the most beloved starters on our menu.

Belgian Chocolate Mousse- Where it all began. Light, silky, and made from a secret recipe passed down through Chef Johan’s family. The dish that built Café D’Anvers.
